Product Description The 6-In-1 Educational Solar -- Robotic Kit is an excellent beginner building kit designed to teach how solar power is used to drive a small motor. Children use the 21 snap together parts (no tools required) to build six different working models including an airboat, car, windmill, puppy, and two different airplanes. Solar building kits teach children the benefits of solar energy, while they create a toy that is both fun to play with and requires no batteries. Educators, science museums, and hobbyists will surely appreciate the durability, educational value, and endless hours of amusement for children and adults too! This is a beginner kit recommended for ages 10 and up.

Ghost Ship August 30, 2010 E. Dean I bought this for a bit over ten bucks and I also bought the OWI amphibious boat/car for forty. This kit is simple to assemble--especially compared to the amphibious one which had very intimidating instructions and which I have yet to attempt. The instructions in this kit use very detailed pictures and very few words. Follow the pictures and you'll do fine. I was only interested in the boat so that's the only thing I built. The solar panel requires direct sunlight. I tried a 100 watt bulb (out of curiosity) and got nothing. So I went outside to the pool. If you follow the instructions and wire + to + then the propeller pulls the boat backwards. So I connected + to - and vice-versa and the propeller pushed the boat forward. However, a very light wind (2m.p.h.) is enough to turn this boat in a circle before it even travels two feet. So it just whirs along in circles until the sun goes behind a cloud. I thought, okay, maybe this would be good for people to play with indoors . . . but then I remembered it needs sunlight. So unless you have an indoor pool in a greenhouse, this boat will just travel in circles and never reach port. It's a ghost ship.
Poor quality August 3, 2010 gravity (Atlanta, GA United States) The motor wire is broken in the box itself. Overall the kit looked to be of poor quality. Don't waste your money.
Complete Junk July 27, 2010 Michael Kolodner (Arlington, VA) My 7 year old son was given this for a birthday gift. It's total junk. Difficult to build (even for the adult "helping") and it didn't really work once put together anyway. In total direct sunlight is the only situation in which the wheels spin and then they're so poorly molded that the leftover bumps keep it from moving. Straight to the trash.
Fun but complicated June 28, 2010 pippinh I bought this toy for my son's birthday. He loved the idea of it, however some of the pieces were difficult to put together and a little flimsy. Part of the difficulty was that it is a really small toy. barely palm-sized. Overall he really liked it because he enjoys building things. he liked the fact that he could build several different things. It worked really well when in direct sunlight. the wheels won't roll on concrete. maybe on a super smooth surface? haven't tried that yet. Anyway...overall my son liked it. got frustrated with it but liked it initially.
Absolute Crap June 9, 2010 Cynthia M. 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My brother purchased the OWI 6 in 1 educational solar kit as part of his middle school graduation present; needless to say by the title of this review it is junk, absolute crap. First off this "toy" is much more complicated and much smaller than it seems on the box, and as for the recommended age of 10 it would be impossible for one so young. I'm 17, an honors student, and it was difficult for me . Your first hint to its low quality is the large stamp MADE IN CHINA right across the bottom almost as if it's some kind of excuse. Secondly the instructions are worse than those DIY media cabinets from IKEA. They don't even bother to coil the wires for you and if you slip up and remove the twister early, too bad for you. Finally, and probably most importantly, the stupid tiny motor doesn't even turn the gear. In full sunlight all you get is a little struggling, humming noise. Big Whoop! What I really want to say would get this review tagged and removed, but for your own peace of mind and your child's happiness, DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!
