Lasted one day August 12, 2010 David Siegel (New York, ny United States) Ours lasted one day. Within an hour or so, it got Mad Cow Disease and only one side really worked. Too bad. My son was enjoying it.
Tech Data Missing April 14, 2010 Jorge F. Reynolds Once again important detail isn't supplied. Spare batteries onhand are a must when giving a child this type of toy. However do note the following: Older 'Original HEXBUG ALPHA' (solid color battery door) use AG12/LR43 batteries. Newer Alphas (with translucent battery door) use the AG13/LR44 In the absence of detail one might assume this takes an AA or AAA. Nowhere is Button Battery mentioned, much less WHICH button! No Detail: NO SALE! By the way, it would have been nice to have been told that it's 2&2/3" long, 2&1/3" WIDE & 1&1/3" high.
Amazing April 7, 2010 Lew Craig (Payson, AZ, USA) Hexbugs are an amazing technology. It is fun and I recommend them. I gave this one 4 stars because it seems to be a fragile toy.
A GREAT NOVELTY GIFT April 1, 2010 Margaux Paschke (New York) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the third HexBug my son has purchased. This one resembles a beetle to our way of thinking. All of the bugs in this series have been winners and this one is no exception. My son is thrilled with this addition to his collection of HexBugs. It creeps along very bug like but backs away if you clap your hands in front of it or it comes to a wall. Sometimes, it gets stuck banging up against a wall and can get lost under furniture. This bug does not perform well on carpets or beds - it must have a hard surface to crawl properly. I think this toy is worth the price since it provides lots of playtime as my kids (and husband) devise obstacle courses for it, battle it against other HexBugs and love to bring it outside. It has gotten lost a few times inside the house as they leave it to crawl around on it's own but the small noise of its mechanical legs helps track it down.
I WISH WE HAD THESE WHEN I WAS A KID March 19, 2010 Margaux Paschke (New York) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We saw these at a store and thought it would be fun for our boys. This toy bug turned out even better then expected! Other toys are popular but once purchased, can have a very short life span. This one looked like fun and something that could last a while. My son was not thrilled with this toy until we took it out and turned it on (small switch on the back of the bugs). It walks around pretty much like a bug and can build up some speed. It gets into everything and those dust bunnies under the sofa, etc. will be dragged out by these little buggers. Be prepared to move furniture or crawl under things to retrieve them as they sometimes get stuck. They are sturdy enough to survive an attack from our dog who also loves to chase after it. My boys love to creep people out with this robotic bug. The Alpha comes in second to the HexBug Ant - Colors vary which zips around much faster. Right now, my son and husband argue over who gets to set off the bug after they set up obstacle courses for it. The bug works well on tile, hardwood floor, and carpet. My husband has since added one to his office and gets repeated demands for demos. My son is saving up his allowance to buy more. The One Individual Nano Hexbug Robot with Online Code - Colors May Vary are another huge favorite. Just note that these bugs are too big for the Nano Hex bug habitat. The Hex Bug comes with batteries and they last for a long time. The cost is well worth the amount of playtime and amusement my kids get out of this toy. The Nano bugs are even cheaper and are also fun.
